I am currently a Visiting Assistant Professor of German at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC. I have a B.A. in English, minor in German from Clemson University and a Ph.D. in German Studies from Duke University. I have experience teaching German language, literature, and culture at all levels, as well as
interdisciplinary humanities courses.
My current research focuses on masculinity and misogyny in German “New Wave” Pop literature, in particular the novels of Christian Kracht and Benjamin Lebert. My book project, Volatile Masculinities in German Pop Fiction, explores the development of destructive masculine personae in the works of Kracht, Lebert, and other Pop authors. I am also researching literary and filmic depictions of the psychopath in Germany, the United States, and Britain. Additional research interests include film, the horror genre, and cultural exchanges between Germany and the United States.
My teaching interests, in addition to German language, include: Romanticism; 20th and 21st century German and American literature, film, and culture; vampires and other monsters in European and American literature, film, and television; and the German Democratic Republic.
